Gyro for individuals FAQ

What is Gyro?

Gyro is a flight compensation platform that helps you recover money when your flights are delayed, cancelled, or disrupted. We scan your email to find past and upcoming flights, check if you're eligible for compensation under global flight regulations, and handle the entire claim process for you. Think of it as money you're owed but never knew about.

How does Gyro work?

It's simple: sign up, connect your email, and we do the rest. Gyro scans your inbox for flight booking confirmations going back 3 years, identifies which flights were delayed or cancelled, checks your eligibility under the applicable regulations, and files claims on your behalf. You don't need to fill out forms or deal with airlines - we handle everything.

Is Gyro free to use?

Yes, signing up and checking your eligibility is completely free. We only charge a fee if we successfully recover compensation for you. If we don't win, you don't pay. Our fee is 30% of the successfully recovered amount.

What does Gyro cost?

Our pricing is simple: $30% of the compensation we recover. For example, if we recover $600 for you, our fee would be $180, and you'd receive $420. There are no hidden fees, no subscriptions, and no charge if we don't win your claim.

What is the instant payout option?

Instead of waiting for the airline to process your claim (which can take weeks or months), you can choose to receive 60% of your estimated compensation instantly. We pay you upfront and take on the risk of collecting from the airline. This option is available on eligible claims once we've confirmed your flight qualifies for compensation.

What flights are eligible for compensation?

Flights that were delayed 3+ hours, cancelled, diverted, or where you were denied boarding may be eligible. The specific rules depend on which regulation applies to your flight - this is determined by your departure/arrival airports and the airline. Gyro checks eligibility under all major global flight compensation regulations automatically.

Which regulations does Gyro cover?

Gyro covers all major global flight compensation regulations including: EU261 (flights departing from or arriving in the EU on EU carriers), UK APR (UK flights), US DOT (US departures/arrivals), Canadian APPR (Canada flights), and Brazilian ANAC (Brazil flights). We continuously add support for new regulations as they become available.

How much compensation can I get?

Compensation amounts vary by regulation and flight details. Under EU261 for example, you could receive between 250 and 600 euros depending on flight distance. Under Canadian APPR, amounts range from CAD 400 to 1,000. Under US DOT rules, refunds and additional compensation vary. Gyro calculates the exact amount for each of your flights automatically.

How far back can Gyro check my flights?

When you connect your email, Gyro scans up to 3 years of flight booking confirmations. Many regulations allow claims to be filed up to 3 years (and in some cases up to 6 years) after the flight. This means you could have significant unclaimed compensation waiting for you right now.

What if my flight was delayed due to weather?

It depends on the regulation. Under EU261, airlines are not required to pay compensation for 'extraordinary circumstances' like severe weather, political instability, or security threats. However, under some other regulations like US DOT, different rules apply. Gyro checks all the details and only files claims where you have a valid case.

How long does the claims process take?

Most claims are resolved within 4-12 weeks, though some can take longer depending on the airline. Gyro handles all communication with the airline on your behalf, and you'll receive push notifications at every stage - when your claim is submitted, when the airline responds, and when your compensation is paid. If you don't want to wait, you can use our instant payout option.

Is it safe to connect my email?

Yes. We only request read-only access to your email - we cannot send, delete, or modify any emails. We only scan for flight-related emails (booking confirmations, itineraries, e-tickets) using specific search filters. Your access tokens are encrypted, and you can disconnect your email at any time from your profile settings.

What emails does Gyro read?

We only look for flight booking confirmations, e-tickets, itineraries, and boarding passes. We search for specific keywords like 'flight confirmation' and 'booking confirmation' in email subjects, and check for emails from known airline domains. We never read personal emails, and we never store email content - we only extract flight numbers and dates.

Can I use Gyro without connecting my email?

Yes. You can add flights manually by entering your flight number and date. However, connecting your email gives you the best experience - we can instantly import up to 3 years of flight history and automatically detect eligible claims you might have missed.

How do I disconnect my email?

Go to Profile > Connected Email and tap 'Disconnect'. This immediately revokes our access to your email. Any flights already imported will remain in your account, but we will no longer scan for new flights.

What are Gyro points?

Gyro points are rewards you earn by using the app - tracking flights, filing claims, completing your profile, checking in daily, and referring friends. You can spend your points on partner deals and offers in our marketplace, including travel gear, airport lounges, eSIM data packs, travel insurance, and more.

How do I earn points?

You earn points through many actions: 50 points per auto-detected flight, 200 points for connecting your email, 200 points per claim filed, 500 points when a claim is paid out, 100 points for completing your profile, 10 points for daily check-ins (with streak bonuses), and 500 points for each friend you refer. The more you fly and engage, the more you earn.

Do points expire?

No. Gyro points never expire. Your earned points stay in your wallet until you choose to spend them.

What can I spend points on?

Points can be redeemed for partner offers in our marketplace. Categories include travel gear (luggage, headphones), airport lounges, eSIM data packs for international travel, travel insurance, food and drink vouchers, fashion, tech accessories, and experience bookings. Can I transfer or convert points to cash?

Points cannot be transferred between users or converted to cash. They are redeemable exclusively through partner offers in the Gyro marketplace.

How does the referral program work?

When that friend files their first claim, you earn an additional 250 points. Your friend also gets 250 welcome bonus points when they join. You can find your referral code and share options in Profile > Referral Program.

What does Gyro offer for businesses?

Gyro helps companies recover compensation from delayed and cancelled business flights. We connect to your travel management system or process flight data directly, automatically identify eligible flights, and handle the entire claims process. Companies typically recover thousands of dollars per year in compensation they didn't know they were owed.

How does Gyro work for companies?

We integrate with your existing travel booking process. You provide us with employee flight data (via your TMC, email forwarding, or direct upload), and our system automatically checks every flight for compensation eligibility. When eligible flights are found, we file claims on behalf of your company and handle all airline communication. You get a dashboard to track everything in real-time.

What size companies does Gyro work with?

Gyro works with companies of all sizes, from startups with a handful of traveling employees to large enterprises with thousands of flights per month. Our system scales automatically, and our pricing model means there's no upfront cost regardless of company size.

Gyro for Business FAQ
How much does Gyro cost for companies?

Gyro operates on a success-based model with no upfront fees, no subscriptions, and no per-seat costs. We take a percentage of the compensation we successfully recover. You only pay when we put money back in your pocket. Contact us for specific pricing based on your travel volume.

Is there a minimum number of flights or employees?

No. Whether your company has 5 traveling employees or 5,000, Gyro can help. There's no minimum flight volume or employee count required.

How much can our company expect to recover?

Recovery amounts depend on your travel volume, routes, and the airlines your employees fly. As a rough benchmark: with 50 employees traveling monthly averaging 8 flights per year, a company could expect to recover around $16,000 or more annually. We provide a free estimate based on your actual travel data.

What is the Company Dashboard?

The Company Dashboard is your central hub for tracking all flight compensation activity. You can see total flights processed, eligible claims, active claims, completed claims, total money recovered, and detailed reporting. It gives you full visibility into the compensation recovery process across your entire organization.

Who manages the account on our side?

You designate one or more account administrators who have access to the Company Dashboard. They can view all employee flight data, claim statuses, and recovery reports. Employees don't need to do anything - the system works automatically.

Do our employees need to sign up individually?

No. Gyro works at the company level. We process flight data centrally, so individual employees don't need to create accounts or take any action. The compensation goes directly to the company.

How do you get our flight data?

We offer several integration methods: direct connection to your Travel Management Company (TMC), email forwarding of booking confirmations, CSV/file upload of flight records, or API integration. We work with your existing tools and processes - no changes needed on your end.

Is our employee data secure?

Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption for all data in transit and at rest. We only process flight-related information (names, flight numbers, dates, routes). We comply with GDPR and other applicable data protection regulations. We can provide our security documentation and sign DPAs upon request.

What data do you need from us?

At minimum, we need: passenger name, flight number, and flight date. Additional details like booking reference, departure/arrival airports, and cabin class help us process claims faster. All of this is typically available in your booking confirmation emails or TMC reports.

What else is Gyro building for businesses?

Beyond compensation recovery, we're building a comprehensive travel intelligence platform. Upcoming features include: Credits & Refunds tracking (airline vouchers and credits that often go unused), Policy Compliance monitoring, Proactive Trip Agent for real-time disruption handling, a Policy Engine for travel policy enforcement, eSIM for business travelers, and flight insurance. Our API-first architecture also means your existing tools and AI agents can integrate directly with Gyro.

Can we integrate Gyro into our existing tools?

Yes. Gyro is built API-first, which means it integrates with your existing travel management tools, expense systems, and internal platforms. We also support integration with AI agents and automated workflows. Contact us for API documentation and integration support.

How do we get started?

Getting started is simple: contact us at hello@heygyro.com, and we'll set up a brief call to understand your travel patterns. We'll then provide a free estimate of your potential recovery. Once you decide to proceed, we'll set up your Company Dashboard and begin processing your flight data - typically within a few days.

Is there a contract or commitment?

No long-term contracts required. Gyro operates on a pay-for-performance basis. You can stop using the service at any time. We're confident you'll stay because the service pays for itself.

How long until we see results?

Once we have your flight data, we can typically identify eligible claims within 24-48 hours. First compensation payments usually arrive within 4-12 weeks, depending on airline response times. Your Company Dashboard shows real-time progress on all claims from day one.
